Our Story
Enyonam and Jacob’s story began like all good love stories do: with a DM on Twitter.
Enyonam and Jacob connected online through mutual friends and on one fateful summer day in 2015, Jacob finally messaged Enyonam to ask the most important question of their relationship:
“What’s your coffee order? 👀”
Enyonam liked green tea, not coffee, but Jacob was absolutely certain he could make a coffee drinker out of her (he was right). A few days later, they met up in the afternoon at the Starbucks in Gallery Place, where Enyonam immediately asked Jacob:
“You know that you’re really tall, right?”
Apparently, Jacob was already aware of this.
They fell in love that summer and fall, talking constantly and hanging out all around DC. Seeing The Exorcist at the Georgetown stairs. Listening to the drummers at Malcolm X Park. Trying new restaurants and new cuisines.
Movies at E Street Cinema. Outdoor festivals on the Mall. Musicals at The Kennedy Center. Their very first of many pumpkin patch dates. Basketball games, where Enyonam noticed one of Jacob’s many green flags:
Anyone who could love the Wizards through season after season was definitely someone worth holding onto.
In the winter, Jacob accepted a job in Michigan while Enyonam finished college in Maryland. For the next few years, the two of them followed their dreams and moved where life took them: Atlanta, Oakland, Ann Arbor, Providence, Kigali.
Ambling walks in the park turned into 6-hour WhatsApp calls.
Live comedy shows turned into long-distance game nights.
Late dinners in the city turned into cooking classes over Zoom.
Throughout all the changes, they remained in love, traveling the world to see one another, finding each other in the midst of everything.
9 years later, while on vacation in Kenya, Jacob proposed to the love of his life on a dhow at sunset. Enyonam, of course, replied:
“I knew you had a crush on me.”
Enyonam and Jacob are so excited to celebrate their love where it all began, with their favorite people in their favorite place: Washington, D.C.
